One way to enjoy world of warcraft is by Role Playing (RP). This guide is to explain all the basics to you, even if you’ve never heard of RPing, and to help you enjoy it.
What is Role
Playing?
Some people say Role Playing is just like acting and in a way it is. However, Role Playing is about creating a character that is your very own. Through wow you customize your race, class and looks; you can decide on a personality and play that character. Others tell you it is like being a puppeteer making that character be something you want it to be.
Creating Your Character
One of the biggest decisions to make is what your character is. First you should choose your race, keep in mind each race has its own lore, its own history, and its own way to speak. Next is your class, this also plays a vital role in your character. Warlocks tend to be dark, Priests (that spec holy) tend to be very religious.
Next is the characters looks. If you are playing a savage
warrior you do not want a character with an innocent look. Here again you can
personalize your character to be how you want it.
Last is the personality. Through race and class you have already begun to choose your character's personality but now you should think about it in more depth. How does my character think, speak, and what kind of attitude does he/she have?
Actually Role Playing
Now your in game and your running around, but how do you RP? Simple, anything you character says, in guild, in party, in any of the chats should be In Character (IC). If you must talk Out of Character (OOC) then use brackets of some kind. Examples below.

I’m Role Playing, What now?
So your walking around, your role playing, having a good time, but you want to know more, do more, get into some “advanced” concepts. Over the next couple of sections I will talk about ways to improve your role playing, little things you can do to help yourself out.
Walking
So your running around Azeroth, and Outlands, now STOP! Okay
there is this little key, that depending on what key you’ve bound it to there
is a “Walk” option. Now this cuts your speed in half but it makes a huge
difference. Some people only walk when they are in town (aka major cities,
sometimes all towns and cities). Some people walk everywhere. When someone is
walking down a road it is noticeable because well not everyone does it. If you
are 40+ you can also use the key when mounted, which also gets a lot of looks.
Taverns
Meet up with people in towns, taverns, any place on your server that RPers like to meet. Sit around, have a drink, relax, and RP with other characters, develop friendships, relationships, family, have a good time!
RP Events
Got a group of people you love to RP with then get together
for an event? RP out in game festivals, the faire, or take a trip down to one
of the many beaches! Create a scavenger hunt, or play hide and seek, have a
wedding. Take some of the lore and go exploring, go back in time in the Caverns
of Time. Make it fun, group get togethers are always a blast!
Addons
Have something you like to say over and over again? Tired of making macros? There are two great mods for this. The first is Warcry which lets you set up a bunch of automated macros based on circumstances such as “Casting Firebolt” or “Entering Combat”. Then there is Annoy RP, which as a lot of the same functions. However, whatever Annoy RP says is based purely on race and class. The editing is also done out of game by editing the .lua file which is pretty simple, mostly this addon is used if you do not know what you want your character to say.
So you’re a troll, and you want to speak like a troll, but your not good at it. Well Eloquence is the mod for you! This will automatically convert your words! Now I have not done to much playing with this mod so I will update this tidbit as I do more playing.
Flagrsp is another great one to help you find other RPers, and let you know who is looking to RP. There is also My Roleplay (MRP) that did this as well though it is no longer under development
